Synopsis
What would you do if you woke up thirty years older than you were yesterday?
Brooklyn, 1982.
Oona Lockhart and her boyfriend are about to ring in the New Year and Oona's 19th birthday. But seconds after the New Year begins, Oona is torn from her life and everyone she loves, finding herself in her fifty-one year old body thirty-three years into the future.
The life she had is gone, and all she is a letter from herself from the previous year to guide her.
Each year on the stroke of midnight she finds herself resurfacing in a different year of her own adulthood.
Still a young woman on the inside, but ever changing on the outside, who will she be next year? Wealthy philanthropist? Club kid? World traveller? Wife to a man she's never met?
My Review
I adored this book!!!
Opening in 1982 Oona is at a New Year’s Eve party in her boyfriend Dales home waiting to ring in the new year with all her friends and to also celebrate her 19th birthday which will come at midnight.
You can tell from the beginning Oona is completely in love with Dale, yet she hasn’t told him that she is considering going to London with her friend for a year before she continues on her path for her future career, instead of going off with Dale and the rest of the band that they she Is a keyboardist in.
As the clock strikes midnight Oona feels the ground rumbling and starts to feel a bit out of sorts but she just puts this down to the alcohol, but as soon as it’s New Year’s Day at the stroke of twelve Oona finds her self on the floor in a place she didn’t recognise and in a body that is completely different to the 19year old one she was in just a second ago!!
Oona has time jumped to 2015 to her fifty one year old self.
completely confused Oona tries to work out what has happened and with the help of an old friend ( she doesn’t know him yet) she reads a letter from her 2014 self explaining every year on New Year’s Eve at the stroke of midnight she will
jump to a different time in her life, why, she doesn’t know but all she can hope is that she eventually finds her way back to 1984 in her 19 year old body eventually so she can live her life in an ordered way instead of this rearranged version she has to keep jumping through.
My favourite character was undeniably Oona but I also loved her quirky, crazy mother!
I can not recommend this book enough, it was such a lovely, refreshing read that will sit on my shelf to be devoured again in the future.
