Today is my stop on the blog tour hosted by BlackThorn Tours for this fantastic, gripping thriller... This is book one in a series of books. Any wish fulfilled for the right price...
That's the promise the organization behind The Desire Card gives to its elite clients - but sometimes the price may be more menacing than anyone could ever imagine. Harrison Stockton has lived an adult life of privilege and excess: a high-powered job on Wall Street fuels his fondness for alcohol and pills at the expense of a family he has no time for.
Quite suddenly all of this comes crashing to a halt when he loses his job and at the same time discovers he almost certainly has only months left to live. Desperate, and with seemingly nowhere else left to turn, Harrison activates his Desire Card.
What follows is a gritty and gripping quest that takes him from New York City to the slums of Mumbai and forces him to take chances, and make decisions, he never thought he’d ever have to face.
When his moral descent threatens his wife and children, Harrison must decide whether to save himself at any cost, or do what’s right and break his bargain with the mysterious group behind The Desire Card.
My Review... This is a fantastic, fast paced thriller that will literally keep you page turning till the very end! As much as I began despising Harrison’s character from the beginning, feeling he was getting everything that he deserved, that soon turned to feeling sorry for him and pitying him, even though he made all the wrong decisions and brought most of his problems into himself, being an extremely selfish man who thought he could quite literally buy absolutely anything that he wanted, he was desperately trying to sort him self out, and for the right reasons in the end!
I felt for his wife, not having her husband present all those years, and as much as his children were silver spoon, expectant, ungrateful children, I can not help but feel this is because of the entitled life they have been given, and lack of two firm supportive parents.
I never guessed who the 'big boss' was, but had an inkling right at the end, but the author allowed that question to form in my mind by dropping some big bread crumbs!!
I loved how all of the Desire Card company had realistic masks of the golden age theatre over there faces, Humpfrey Bogart, Clark Gable etc this added a little extra for me..
This book does make you wonder, if you literally had a card in your hand that promised to get you anything that you desired for the right price, and money really was no problem, would you use it ???
would you really be able to resist that teptation if faced with needing a new organ as you would not survive waiting in the donor list?
Harrison, for all his flaws, is not naturally a bad person, he has just lived a lifestyle that has eased his hands into. lifetime of bad and mostly immoral decisions.
Can we all really change??
This is such a page turning great read, one I sat and thought about long after finishing and I can not wait for the next book in this new series, Prey no more, available in 2020
Thank you @blackthornbks for this great read!! And @leematthewgoldberg for a gripping thriller!
