First Lines Friday - October 2nd

Hey Bookworms

First Lines Fridays is my weekly feature for all you bookworms out there in need a little inspiration.

I have been posting these over on Instagram for a while but decided to further my reach.

Each Friday I will attempt to hook you in by posting the first handful of lines of a book that I recommend for you all to read, this way I can allow the story to grab you with the magic of its opening lines rather then an eye grabbing cover or a catchy blurb adorning the back.

Then I will reveal the book and include purchase links at the end.

The first lines of this week's chosen book are. . .

The Shape Of Darkness by Laura Purcell

Happy bookfam, its finally Friday and I for one can not be happier.

So how amazing does this story sound?

i was totally drawn in by that first page and find myself extremely eager to read the rest.

I am a huge fan of Laura Purcell and absolutely adore her previous books, I've added them below for you to take a peek at.

I love historical fiction and especially Victorian historical, Laura really captures the era and you find yourself totally captivated and thrown into the story, surrounded by the atmosphere of that era, whilst being chilled by the words on the page.

The Shape Of Darkness

Wicked deeds require the cover of darkness...

A struggling silhouette artist in Victorian Bath seeks out a renowned child spirit medium in order to speak to the dead - and to try and identify their killers - in this beguiling new tale from Laura Purcell.

Silhouette artist Agnes is struggling to keep her business afloat. Still recovering from a serious illness herself, making enough money to support her elderly mother and her orphaned nephew Cedric has never been easy, but then one of her clients is murdered shortly after sitting for Agnes, and then another, and another...

Desperately seeking an answer, Agnes approaches Pearl, a child spirit medium lodging in Bath with her older half-sister and her ailing father, hoping that if Pearl can make contact with those who died, they might reveal who killed them. But Agnes and Pearl quickly discover that instead they may have opened the door to something that they can never put back... What secrets lie hidden in the darkness?
