Synopsis

Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock . . . midnight.

The old millennium turns into the new.

In the same hospital, two very different women give birth to two very similar daughters.

Hope leaves with a beautiful baby girl.

Anna leaves with empty arms.

Seventeen years later, the gods who keep watch over broken-hearted mothers wreak mighty revenge, and the truth starts rolling, terrible and deep, toward them all.

The power of mother-love will be tested to its limits.

Perhaps beyond . . .

Because Of You is Dawn French's stunning new novel, told with her signature humour, warmth and so much love.

My Review

This was an emotional and in places difficult to read. The story is about two women who give birth on the same day. One goes home with her baby, the other doesn’t.

The beginning of this story was intense and I needed tissues throughout, this is my first Dawn French book and I was surprised at how someone can be such a great comedian but also hit the heart so hard with this much of a tender story.

She explores the grit of relationships and family, a mother’s love and her emotions and grief.

it’s full of loss and heartache yet also forgiveness and hope, but on the flip side to that it’s also utterly beautiful. There is happiness as well as sadness.

I loved the ending, loved how the author finished off this story and closed the last page feeling glad I had read it. I’ll definitely try another book by this author.
