My Review

Thank you Anne Cater and Orion for this fantastic proof copy and blog tour spot.

Firstly this was such an emotional read. I found myself unsure in the beginning of what had actually happened to Ali and what her husband Jack had done to her for her to be so afraid of him.

Extremely clever and beautifully written this story was at times raw and hard hitting but slowly unfolds itself to you gradually as you read.

The story opens with Alison. She is standing on a bridge, hanging over the edge struggling with the upset and turmoil she feels and can no longer handle. She is paranoid that her husband Jack has been watching her every move, so sure that he is lying to her and that she needs to escape, then she lets go of the edge of the bridge into the void of air that consumes her as she falls.

The story then takes on a series of chapters, now and then between Alison and Jack.

Now, Alison is working in a library, she knows she can not see Jack, he has no idea where she now lives and she is safe because he can not hurt her anymore.

Then, Alison and Jack are happily married living in their flat and trying for a baby through IVF which so far has been unsuccessful. Both have came from childhoods that are not the norm and they both separately struggle with their own demons whilst trying to live a normal life.

This is a really hard review to write because the book was absolutely brilliant, written in such a way that it really affects you, dealing with some extremely hard topics that when going through are mostly suffered alone but I can not say to much because I do not want to give away what will take your breath away in the story.

So I will just have to say that this is a MUST read, one that I can not spoil by telling you its secrets but I can say its a story of love, marriage, the demons that women can face and the struggles of how a couple can survive them alongside everything else that threatens to swallow us up in life.

The twist in the middle of the book is hard hitting and very touching.

Every woman and man who read this can either relate to the situation or breathe a sigh of relief that they can not as its something that could affect absolutely anyone.

Thank you Nikki for this beautiful read.

Preorder your copy now, you will not be disappointed. I can not wait to see what Nikki Smith writes next.
