My Review
I love a good psychological thriller and this one did not disappoint.
Lucy King has escaped her abusive partner and fled to a rented cottage in the country in NewYork with her dog Dusty. Covering her bruised and cut face with some thick foundation Lucy braves a walk on her second day so her dog can go to the toilet, this is where she meets her new neighbour Vera, She invites Lucy over for dinner that evening and actually manages to make her smile for the first time in a long time.
At the same time she meets another neighbour who makes it very clear that she does not like vera and John and that if icy her needs her then to gee her a call. Baffled, Lucy puts it down to an older neighbour who is a bit of a recluse and doesn't give it another thought.
Vera and John seem fun, kind and just the tonic that Lucy needs but it isn't long before she soon learns that they have troubles of their own and are in some serious trouble. Someone in the town has been spreading vicious lies about them and also threatening them with a lawsuit.
Every day Lucy fears that her ex, Davis is going to find her again. Constantly on high alert and jumpy, Lucy is adamant that things are also being moved around her house.
When Vera comes up with a solution to their problems she asks her new best friend Lucy to tell a small white lie, Lucy agrees but then it all goes horribly wrong and someone turns up dead and it isn't long before Lucy realises everything, including her lie, could be exposed.
Why I Loved It
This was such a great page turner, I was constantly on edge wondering if Davis was going find out where Lucy had escaped to and at the same time sceptical of her new neighbours.
This book had a great twist at the end and was definitely one of those books that you can not put down
