My Review
If I had not met an Illyrian warrior-in-training, I would not have known the true depths of strength, of resilience, of honor and loyalty."
"If I had not met a shadowsinger, I would not have known that it is the family you make, not the one you are born into, that matters. I would not have known what it is to truly hope, even when the world tells you to despair."
"If I had not met my cousin, I would never have learned that light can be found in even the darkest of hells. That kindness can thrive even amongst cruelty."
"If I had not met a tiny monster who hoards jewels more fiercely than a firedrake my own power would have consumed me long ago."
"And if I had not met my mate..."
He said down the bond, I would have waited five hundred more years for you. A thousand years. And if this was all the time we were allowed to have... The wait was worth it.
That quote still insights me with the excitement and pretence which was to come in the following pages on the battlefield.
I ABSOLUTELY loved this third instalment to this truly epic series.
The story begins this time with Feyre in the Summer Court playing at being Tamlin's love so that she can turn all his court against him and get her own revenge on the high priestess for betraying her sisters and having them turned into High Fae, all so Tamlin can get back Feyre.
Whilst at the Summer Court she successfully convinces the guards and other lesser Fae that Tamlin doesn't have there best interests at heart and starts to sow the seed of doubt.
It isn't long before Feyre does what she has set out to do and upon being found out she makes a run for it back to The Night Court but she has Lucien in tow desperate to see Elain his bonded mate.
This is where it gets really good for me, Lucien and Feyre are both starved of magic thanks to the fight back in The Summer Court so they have to make it through the other courts in order to make it safely to the Night Court, she cannot contact Rhysand through the bond as she isn't strong enough so the pair risk their lives making their way on the outskirts of the courts.
During travelling through The Autumn Court, Lucien's home court, they are tracked down and attacked by his brothers...
This is the part that made me squeal out loud with delight as two Illyrian Warriors come to there aid and offer them a helping hand.
There is so much I could rant on about with this story but I am ever mindful not to ruin it for any future readers and I don't do spoilers so, with a fear that I may have said to much already ill end up my review with this.
The battle scenes were truly amazing! Its no secret that they all go to war with the King of Hybern but I did not expect the writing and descriptiveness to draw me in so much and literally have my heart in my throat.
If they could make this series into movies then this book would be the best one, the fighting, the alliances made and the sacrifices they all have to make all add to an amazing atmosphere which you not only feel on the inside but you also see in your mind whilst your reading.
Why I Loved It
No book has had me so enthralled before. Every page was an on the edge of my seat experience and as much as I couldn't wait to get to the end, I also had that dread that I did not want it to finish either.
There is a couple of massive curveballs at the end, I certainly did not see either of them coming and when they did! Woah! Just brilliant. Sarah J Maas is now my most favourite author and has truly made me addicted to this kind of fantasy, especially when I thought that they wasn't really for me.
Highly Recommend this series. Trust me you won't regret it.
