My Review...
If you love Victorian Thrillers then this book is just for you!! The Corset is utterly chilling and so beautifully written. I love Laura Purcell’s books, they hook you right in and leave you thinking long after. The narrative is shared by two young women in Victorian England, Dorothea, a wealthy heiress and Ruth, a seamstress, imprisoned for murdering her mistress. Dorothea, having an interest in the brain and how it works, visits women in jail and try’s to help them find god, and try to work out if evil can be cured! Ruth is an abused child, sold to a dress shop as a seamstress to pay off her mother’s debt. Ruth believes with every stitch she threads her thoughts, fears and feelings go into the fabric and affect those who wear her makes.. She believes that she is to blame for loved ones dying around her and focuses all her anger into her sewing... Dorothea is trapped within her heart, living with her father, in love with someone she is not supposed to love and fearing being married off to anyone her father can find before its to late... I loved this story and did not expect the ending at all!!!! I highly recommend you grab this book at any opportunity.
