My Review

This book was just the uplift I needed. A little while ago I was heading for a slump and usually, I can drag myself out of it with my favourite genre but it didnā€™t seem like that was going to work this time. But then I picked up Seven Exes and had my reading slump status completely turned on its head.

I loved the premise. From the start, I was completely enthralled by Esther and whilst amid a moaning marathon about her love life whilst out with friend, she comes across a magazine from the noughties. The writer states that there are seven people a woman will date before finding the one:

š™š™š™š š™š™žš™§š™Øš™© š™‡š™¤š™«š™š, š™š™š™š š™’š™¤š™§š™  š™ˆš™žš™Øš™©š™–š™ š™š, š™š™š™š š™š™§š™žš™šš™£š™™ š™¬š™žš™©š™ š˜½š™šš™£š™šš™›š™žš™©š™Ø, š™š™š™š š™Šš™«š™šš™§š™”š™–š™„, š™š™š™š š™ˆš™žš™Øš™Øš™šš™™ š˜¾š™š™–š™£š™˜š™š, š™š™š™š š˜½š™–š™Øš™©š™–š™§š™™ š™–š™£š™™ š™š™š™š š™Žš™šš™§š™žš™¤š™Ŗš™Ø š™Šš™£š™š.

This sends Esther on a journey to contact all of her exes to find out which one was the ā€˜one that got awayā€™.

I laughed plenty and found myself sniggering on more than one occasion and found that I could truly relate to how Esther was feeling about the ups and downs of turning thirty ( although for me it was turning forty )

I havenā€™t read any other books by Lucy yet, but if they are anything to go by this one then Iā€™m all in.

The characters are all brilliantly written, I laughed, I cried and at the end of it all I wanted to phone up every friend I had and recommend they read it straight away! It also makes you wonderā€¦ would I want to go back and rehash all of my past relationships? I decided not but it was hilariously frustrating to watch Esther turn back the clock on her dating life!

If you love a laugh-out-loud with the occasional emotional moments Rom-Com then add this one to your tbr.
