Synopsis

Devastated by her mother’s death, Sophie longs to get away from an empty house full of memories and a life that hasn’t quite turned out as she had imagined.

So when a chance discovery among her mother’s belongings hints at a past Sophie knows nothing of, she jumps at the opportunity for escape and a chance to heal. The magical, idyllic Greek town of Methoni awaits…

But Sophie – determined to uncover her mother’s secrets – is about to discover so much more. Among the tranquil waters and cosy tavernas, Methoni’s locals offer Sophie the answers she craves, along with unexpected romance and, if she’ll take it, a chance at her own happiness…

Will walking in her mother’s footsteps help Sophie discover who she was meant to be all along…?

My Review

A stunning debut this story is such a breath of fresh air. It is emotional, tender and uplifting.

We follow the journey of Sophie, an extremely likeable character who spends her days rattling around her home living in the past, surrounded by her mother's possessions. Sophie has not come to terms with losing her mum Lyndsey and the weight of her loss weighs heavy on her heart.

Lyndsey was a talented painter who regularly travelled to Greece for her artistic inspiration. Noticing one of her mum's pictures is missing Sophie decides to take a trip to Methoni in Greece and see if she can discover what happened to it.

Whilst there Sophie has the constant feeling of being followed and fears it’s her abusive ex but soon she meets Theo and the pair strike up a friendship from a mutual share of both being hurt In The past.

I loved every aspect of this story, the atmospheric feeling of Greece, the stunning sea views and friendly locals, I could practically see the staggering whitewash buildings shimmering from the reflection of the blue sea.

Sophie learns to live with the loss of her mum and discovers that she can be happy at the same time. A touching love story between two grieving people who have to learn to open their hearts again, this one will uplift your soul and I closed the last page with a smile on my face and a feel-good feeling in my heart.

One of my favourite parts of this story is the way the author allows you to get to know every single character, the Greek locals all accepted Sophie and treated her as one of their own. Even though she feels broken Sophie is a very strong character, travelling to another country all alone with all the hurt she has inside but we get to see her strength and we watch as she learns to discover how strong she can be herself.

Thank you @avonbooksuk for this beautiful copy✨
